what is the purpose of teeth enamel? what happens when it is gone? does it make your teeth yellow or weak? it can't grow back...can it? thanks!!!
Question about teeth?
Tooth enamel is the hardest substance in the human body and is the protective outer covering of the tooth's crown.
It does not contain any nerves or blood vessels and cannot feel pain, however if it is damaged by progressive decay or through injury, it cannot repair it's self like other body tissues.
It varies in colour from light yellow-grayish white.
Reply:It protects the teeth...very important. Without it your teeth will be sensitive, too. The next layer of tooth is dentin. It's a little more yellow and has many nerve endings in it, unlike enamel. Enamel is hard, the next layer is soft.
Reply:Well, I broke my two front teeth 4 yrs ago, and the dentist told me a bit about this. The enamel is the hard white covering, which can grow back in. Beneath it is a soft layer of nerves. This was visible when I broke my teeth. It is gray and if you touch it it hurts really bad.
hope i helped =)
