Im 16 years old. And ive only been to the dentist one time! I dont like them. Even though I had BEAUTIFUL teeth, My top front teeth are straight as heck and everything. My bottom teeth are sorta crooked, but you cant notice it unless your looking closely inside my mouth. But my only problem is that my teeth are yellow. I tried whitening toothpaste and others, and even got this whitening system but it didnt work.
At the dentist, when they clean your teeth, do they make them white or just clean them like your brushing your teeth?
I have never had my teeth cleaned at the dentist before?
We have a machine called a cavitron, that is specifically designed to clean around your teeth and under your gums. We have pumice/paste that can remove coffee/tea stains on your teeth. However none of those things affect your teeth cosmetically.
Your teeth may seem fine on the surface, but you don't know whether or not you have plaque building up underneath your gums or between your teeth. You also don't know if you have calculus building up on your teeth either. Calculus is plaque that's mineralized. Just like a barnacle on a boat, calculus hangs onto your teeth and is an excellent breeding ground for more bacteria which can lead to cavities or bone disease.
Since your 16, the chances of you having bone disease is rare but not impossible. Long story short you lose bone around your teeth. If you ever get bone disease, also called periodontitis, it's a silent disease. You slowly lose the bone. You really won't notice anything is wrong until it's too late.
I've seen a lot of patients with pristine teeth but with so much bone loss that I can wiggle their tooth with my 2 fingers.
The whole reason to see your dentist regularly is to prevent big disasters from occurring in your mouth. Remember small problems take less time and money to repair. Also small problems don't hurt and to the untrained eye aren't noticeable. So go see your dentist more often.
Reply:They are two totally different things.
Cleaning is just that. By the way, you'll love the feel of it afterwards.
Reply:The last time I've been to the dentist was like 7 years ago and my teeth seem fine.
Reply:My dentist whitens them but it does not make a big difference.
I visit the dentist once a year.
Reply:Hello,
The dentist will use a scraper and take away the built up plaque that's behind the teeth. They use a strong type of toothpaste and basically just scrub them up. They won't however whiten the teeth. You will have to pay for that separately and it will cost you! In Dollars probably around $300 at the least I would say.
There are cheaper ways. I used Crest Whitening Strips and they worked a treat! but as you are so young I'm not sure you should use them.
I would consult your dentist and ask him if you could use the strips ok. They are around $40 for a large pack on ebay.

Reply:They're not gonna get really really white.
Have you paid attention to the foods you eat/drink?
Do you drink, tea, coffee or cola?
Do you smoke?
These will stain your teeth horribly and unless
you stop...they will stay yellow.
Reply:My teeth are kinda yellow too... apparently because im a mouth breather... cleaning them wont make them whiter unless you go get them whitened
Reply:visit your dentist and hygienist atleast once a year--never had fillings before-i thought my teeth were fine--now I found out i got gum desease...there are some decay and cavity that are not visible to the naked eye..
