Why do some people have yellow and/or black teeth?

I just have to know because it is so disguisting and gross. Is it genetic? or what?

Why do some people have yellow and/or black teeth?
i'm a hygienist and it's usually from stain or tartar...could be coffee, tea, soda, red wine, TOBACCO...some people just have darker enamel..but if it's that bad they are probably just dirty :)

Reply:they dont brush their teeth and they probably are a smoker and they dont really go and see the dentist very often.
Reply:it's from not brushing your teeth enough. it's plaque buildup that just stains your teeth because it's there for too long.
Reply:smoking, drinking coffee or tea, or not brushing which will cause them to turn yellow. Of course not brushing them too will cause them to turn yellow and/or black which probably means they are rotting away.

Reply:Ive noticed that alot of meth addicts get black teeth.....because of the chemicals making their teeth rot.
