How many people have straight teeth, crooked, chipped, gaped, yellow, white?

I've had this enormous gap between my two front teeth all of my life. I also fell on a bus once and cracked and chipped both teeth compounding the problem. My dad's addictions left us awfully poor and my parents never could afford to fix my crooked teeth. My teeth ached for years because of the cracks and exposed nerves. I don't know if it was the pain or the embarrassment because of my gappy teeth, I had a hard time smiling.

I made the mistake of complaining about my teeth to my dad. He made me go to his toolbox, get a small file and wash it in the sink. Then, he had me sit back with my head in his lap and he filed my two front teeth a little straighter. Of course, I had to be macho in spite of the discomfort.

After I left home, I could have worn braces and straightened my teeth. But I had a friend who taught me a lesson. She was absolutely perfect. I noticed that even though she was flawless she seemed kind of lonely. Despite her looks, she still tended to think that people didn't like her because of some enormous flaw. She thought she was fat (she definitely wasn't). She thought she had bad skin (supermodels would have killed to have her skin). No matter what people told her, her mirror showed flaws.

So now, I just lead with my flaws and I don't care. For any excuse at all, I give everyone a big toothy smile. If they don't like the yellow, the gap, my hair cut, my shirt, then they're not really looking at the right place. My best features are that I laugh easily. But it's loud. I'm a loud laugher. I don't even try to blend in with my laugh. Sometimes, I'm the first one in the theater to bust loose. Then, it's like everyone else is free to laugh.

A lot of people talk to me. I don't even know why they might want to hang around me but they do. Maybe it's because they either feel better about themselves by comparison, or they know that whenever they want to laugh, they know I'm likely to break the laugh ice first. Then we can safely laugh together. Maybe they don't feel like they have to put on heirs.
