Looking for dentist to whiten my teeth and my smile after having quit smoking...can anyone do it for free?

...I'm a recovering addict, now clean over two years and also have quit smoking. I'm unemployed, but in the process of learning to run a small business... My confidence is simply taking a beating because of my lack of a nice smile and was hoping that a dentist (in Ontario) would come to my rescue and fix my cavities and my yellow teeth. I have tried store products with no success and think that this is the only way to go in having a nice smile again. In the end, I realize that people can be discriminating and feel that my teeth will affect my overall success...and confidence. Is their anyone who can help or dentists that can tell me what I should do? Thanks for reading and if you have info please let me know...I'd be happy and appreciative to hear from you. :(

Wow! I've asked the same thing as well. I'm a recovering addict and drugs wrecked my teeth. They used to be very white and my parents spent tons on orthodonics. Luckily, they've been nice enough to help fix my cavities so I don't have rotten teeth or any missing. However, they are very discolored and like you, I rarely smile. It is affecting my confidence and like you, I know employers discriminate against it even though it's illegal. I live in Michigan. If you find a dentist, can you tell me about them! My e-mail is wkrjen@yahoo.com. It sucks because I am otherwise preety good-looking and I would love to smile! The first thing you need to do is take care of the cavities before your teeth rot out. Then, worry about them being white. Many dentists told me that the only procedure that'll work are porcelin veneers which cost around $800 American dollars A TOOTH! I cannot afford this. I've tried all the whitnening procedures and at home kits and they don't work. When I asked this question, people were cruel! They were like you deserve it for using drugs in the first place. Maybe we can talk more about this and how we can go about finding someone to atleast pay for most of the cost. Luckily, Canada is so much nicer when it comes to helping people out with medical and dental issues. If you don't have insurance in the U.S., you're on your own and whitnening is considered a cosmetic procedure which insurance never covers. I wish the best of luck! In the meantime, practice smiling with your mouth closed like I do and try to do it a lot. Practice in the mirror. And dress nicely and appear well-groomed and practice good hygiene.
Reply:there is nothing free in this country
Reply:baking soda
Reply:Nothing in this world is free. Try contacting your local human services dept- if you cannot afford it, the government will help you with teh cavities at least. Or see a local dental school, they will probably do it at a fraction of what the dentist will charge.
Reply:the only thing I can recommend is find a dentist who'd do pro-bono... a lot of them would do that for tax reasons...

May be have fillings done in the Dental school... but they would not do the whitening.
